Hosted by CWTA in China\u2019s leading knitwear centre, the event placed strong emphasis on wool\u2019s role in innovation, sustainability, digital transformation and consumer wellbeing. Dalang provided a highly relevant setting: it is recognised as a major global knitwear hub, producing approximately 300 million knitted garments annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A theme of the Congress was \u201cKnitting for Tomorrow: Wool and Well-Being in the Digital Age.\u201d This theme reflected the industry\u2019s need to position wool not only as a traditional natural fibre, but as a modern, high-performance material suited to contemporary lifestyles. Discussions highlighted wool\u2019s strengths in comfort, breathability, durability, traceability and environmental performance, while also recognising that these advantages must be clearly communicated to brands, retailers and consumers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Update of Wool Traceability Hub<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Traceability was one of the most important priorities raised throughout the event. AWTA\u2019s Nancy Zhai and Katyana Armen (AWEX) provided the industry with an update on the Australian Wool Sustainability Scheme, including the Australian Wool Traceability Hub (AWTH). Dalang\u2019s manufacturing ecosystem demonstrated how scale, speed and technology can be combined to create highly responsive wool knitwear production. This reinforced the message that wool must actively participate in digital transformation if it is to remain competitive against synthetic and alternative fibres. The launch of the IWTO Green Book, funded by Confindustria Moda, underlined the importance of robust evidence, common standards and responsible claims when communicating wool\u2019s environmental benefits. The IWTO Green Book brings together peer-reviewed science, independently verified data, and practical standards to give brands, retailers, and industry stakeholders the tools they need to address the failures of mainstream environmental accounting. Current life cycle assessment tools used in Europe rank wool and other natural fibres as more environmentally damaging than synthetic fibres derived from fossil fuels. You can download a copy of the IWTO Green Book here <a href=\"https:\/\/iwto.org\/resources\/greenbook\/\">https:\/\/iwto.org\/resources\/greenbook\/<\/a><strong><br><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Changes to IWTO Test Methods<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two interesting changes to IWTO Test Methods were proposed at the conference; Dr Henry Wang (AWTA Ltd) proposed change to IWTO-19 Appendix F, to allow for Auto Proportioning of additional specimens of Total Alkali-insoluble Impurities, using Hyperspectral Imaging technology. This change was supported unanimously by the industry and will be adopted into the next version of IWTO-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Fei Jing proposed an upgrade of the Draft Test Method for the DNA identification of cashmere and wool in blends. This change was supported unanimously by the industry and will be adopted in the upgraded version of IWTO-68.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>R\u00e9sum\u00e9<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overall, IWTO Dalang 2026 presented a forward-looking agenda for the wool industry. The key message was that wool has strong natural advantages, but its future depends on credible sustainability evidence, faster adoption of digital tools, deeper global cooperation and clearer communication of wool\u2019s value to modern consumers.
